Ge.tt
Ge.tt is a simple file sharing site. With Ge.tt you can share any number of files, of any size, and within seconds. There are three simple steps. First, you select your files, then you share them, and then you go on about your business...so I guess there are really only two steps. Creating an account is free and simple: name, email and password. A great feature with Ge.tt is that you "get" statistics with the files that you share, which is why creating an account is so important.
Min.us
Min.us started out as a site intended for the easy sharing of pictures. What is different about Min.us is that it uses a simple drag and drop feature. There is no “uploading” required. You find your file on your computer and drag it into your web browser. Min.us displays the files with the title you gave the file. So it is important to remember to apply an easy title to your files. Once you have dragged your files, Min.us will create two URL’s. One URL is for sharing, one is for editing, so even after dragging and dropping you can still access and make changes. You can download the files in a ZIP format as well.
It can sometimes be hard to get assignments to absent or homebound students, especially if they don’t have an email address. File sharing sites like these make sharing files with your students much easier. You could easily provide a units worth of directions and worksheets to students for them to have access to in case they ever “leave their work at school.”
Dropbox
Dropbox will end up being one of the most
useful sites you will use. Dropbox is an online file storage site. You
can get up to 2 GB of storage for free. You can pay for more, but when
you think about the average Flash Drive that we carry around, 2 GB is
plenty of space for saving Word, Excel, and Power Point Documents.
You can access your Dropbox account from any computer that has Internet access, therefore always having access to important files. You can even get the Dropbox iPhone App as well, so that you can have your files on the go.
Dropbox allows you to create folders so that you can organize your files. It also allows you to share your Dropbox, so you could make it accessible to students or other teachers as well. Watch Dropbox in Plain English for a good introduction.
